New Online Casino Regulations for the Isle of Man

The Government of the Isle of Man have just announced changes to their Online Gambling Regulation Act 2001, (OGRA). The changes have been planned to further improve the regulations of the existing arrangements of the remote gambling jurisdictions. The changes are in three areas, which are software testing, disaster recovery provision and advertising and marketing.

The changes to the act in regarding the software testing are to help reduce the cost and complexity of compliance for licence holders, doing this by simplifying the software approval process. As the Island now has a world-class telecoms infrastructure and IT skilled workers to go with it, the operators licensed and regulated in other jurisdictions can now make use of this and provide disaster recovery from within the island.

In addition to all this, the new regulations in advertising and marketing will enable specialized activities of advertising and marketing to be established, managed and controlled from the Island in support of their clients.

Bill Mummery, Head of e-gaming development for the Isle of Man Government stated, “The Island has seen significant progress in recent years in attracting leaders from key sectors… These legislative changes, produced with the support of Berwin Leighton-Paisner, the London based international law firm, will increase the competitive advantage for the Island’s economy and its operators.”
